Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition–Announcement
Fall 2014–University of Mississippi
The Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) is a research communication competition that is being promoted by graduate schools throughout the US and the world. This activity challenges graduate students to present a compelling oration on their research thesis/dissertation topic and its significance in just three minutes and allows them to use one Power Point slide. 3MT develops academic, presentation, and research communication skills and supports the development of research students’ capacity to effectively explain their research in language appropriate to a non-specialist audience. This skill is critical for all graduate students across all of the academic disciplines.
**Please note that recipients of the 2014 Summer Graduate Assistantships and the Dissertation Fellowships (for Fall 2014) are required to participate in the 3MT competition in Fall 2014. A team of judges (not from the discipline) will determine the winners. The competition will be open to both masters and doctoral students. This year, we will have a first round competition on November 4, and the semi-finalists will compete in the final round on November 13. Winners will be selected at the masters and doctoral level–as well as a grand prize winner. The grand prize winner from the University of Mississippi will have an all-expenses paid trip to the Southern Graduate Schools Competition to be held in New Orleans on March 8, 2015.
